Important Safety Update for VISD Families
Attention Vashon Island School District parents and guardians:
The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We want to make you aware that on Friday, August 21, school administrators were made aware of a concerning social media post made by a student that referenced a potential threat to the District.
The social media post was brought to the attention of the King County Sheriff’s Office by the FBI. The student responsible for the post has been identified, and law enforcement determined that there is no credible threat to our schools.
While privacy laws prohibit us from discussing disciplinary action involving an individual student, threats or statements that cause concern for the safety of our schools are taken seriously and addressed in accordance with District policy and applicable law.
We all play an important role in keeping our schools safe, and events like these serve as a valuable reminder to “See something, Say Something” by reporting safety concerns through appropriate channels, which may be an administrator, law enforcement, a counselor, or through StopIT, our anonymous reporting system.
Families, please speak with your student about the importance of reporting any behavior to an adult immediately and the seriousness of making threatening statements.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our schools safe and providing a supportive learning environment.
