June Principal Update
Dear Chautauqua Parents and Families,
As we approach the end of another wonderful school year, I want to thank our students, staff, and families for making Chautauqua such a special place to learn and grow. This year was filled with memorable experiences, meaningful learning, and opportunities to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our students. From classroom projects and performances to field trips, assemblies, and special events, there is much to be proud of and grateful for this year.
Each month, we also focused on the 10 Elements of Belonging, working to ensure that every student feels welcomed, known, and treasured. Whether students experienced being invited, heard, needed, respected, accepted, supported, befriended, and loved, our goal remains to create a school community where every child knows they matter with opportunities to contribute and grow. These moments of connection are just as important as the academic learning that takes place each day.
Please take a few minutes to read through this final update and join me in celebrating all that our students have achieved.

Library Books are Due!
Please take a few minutes to check under beds, in closets, under car seats, and in all of those hidden places where library books sometimes end up. All library books are now due so that we can complete our end-of-year inventory and make any needed repairs, ensuring our collection is ready for students next year. Thank you for your help!
Lost and Found
Our final Lost and Found display will be on the last day of school. Please take a moment to check for any missing jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, lunch boxes, or other belongings before the end of the year. Any unclaimed items will be donated after school is out. Thank you for helping us reunite students with their belongings!
5th Grade Camp
Our 5th graders had an amazing experience at Camp Sealth this year! A heartfelt thank you to Alex Craighead, Duncan Endava, the One Village team, our VHS mentors, Camp Sealth staff, and our 5th grade teachers, who all helped make this such a meaningful and memorable experience for our students.
We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Vashon Schools Foundation for helping subsidize camp costs so that all students could attend, regardless of financial circumstances. Their support helped ensure that every 5th grader had the opportunity to participate in this important experience of learning, growth, connection, and belonging.
If you have not already done so, please take five minutes to complete the post camp survey sent by your classroom teacher. Your feedback helps improve the experience for future students and families, captures meaningful reflections from this year's participants, and supports continued funding for free youth programming opportunities in our community. Thank you for taking a few moments to share your thoughts and help sustain this important work for Vashon youth and families.
Skyward Update for Families
This summer, Vashon Island School District will transition from Skyward SMS to Skyward Qmlativ. There are no changes for families at this time, and you may continue to access Skyward and student report cards as usual through the end of the school year.
New student enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year will close on June 12 and will not reopen until August. If you, or a family you know, have a student who is NEW to Chautauqua Elementary, please complete the registration process this week, using this link. Registering now helps us plan staffing, class placements, and supports for a successful start to the school year.
In July, Skyward will be temporarily unavailable for approximately two weeks while student data is migrated to the new system. During that time, families will not be able to access Skyward. Once the transition is complete, families will continue to have access to student information through a new Skyward interface and platform. We anticipate that the experience will be very similar, with the same information available in an updated system.
If you would like a copy of your child's report card or other records for your files, we encourage you to download or print them before the system goes offline in July.
2026-2027 School Year
Thank you for your partnership, support, and trust as we work together to support your child's learning and growth. We wish all of our families a wonderful summer and look forward to welcoming students back at the end of August.
